Boats, reefs and big fish
Catamaran and snorkel
A few hours along the coast with a snorkel stop and a sunset sail back. Works for all ages.

Half-day, two-tank trips to the islands offshore. Certified fun dives or a Discover dive for first-timers.

Sportfishing
Half, three-quarter or full days with a private captain. Inshore for roosterfish and snapper, offshore for marlin, sailfish and mahi. Good fishing all year.

Surf lessons
Beginner lessons at Tamarindo or Playa Grande, about 40 minutes south, where the waves are more reliable than at Flamingo. Lessons run about an hour and a half.

Jungle, rivers and lookouts
ATV tours
Dirt roads, river crossings and big views. Tours run 2 to 4 hours and suit beginners. Bring closed-toe shoes.

Ziplining
Treetop lines and hanging bridges 25 to 45 minutes inland. Runs rain or shine, and you’ll often hear howler monkeys.

Waterfalls
A day inland toward Liberia with swimming holes and an easy hike. Some trips add tubing or mud baths. Best from December into the early rainy season.
